Longfellow is a terrific school. It has welcomed me in open arms when I moved to Fairfax County, and has encouraged me to be myself and pursue my interests through the variety of electives it provides. One of these electives I took, which was chorus, really changed my viewpoint on music. I learned many interesting and fun skills in chorus, such as singing harmony and reading Solfeggio, though singing harmony is the coolest. This is why I am giving Longfellow Middles School three stars, because of the dismissal of the chorus program. A chorus program is important, since it gives people who are not interested in playing an instrument learn music theory. Chorus is a non-aggressive and non-competitive class that can teach you these vital skills. So, when Longfellow announced they were taking away chorus, they were basically saying they were taking away an important class that should be a privilege to many.

Longfellow Middle School is a great school, the teachers are great and really nice, and it has alto of after school curricular activities. The Band, and Orchestra is really good. Chorus should be brought back, and find a proper music teacher. The electives are a huge variety. There's one thing that is troubling why do they make us attempt to do 10 laps in 20 minutes. Why can't they just admit that some of are just not fit.

I agree Longfellow was a good school. I would have given it three stars if it weren't for its handling of the music program (something it never would have done with technical electives). The elimination of the Choral Program is a huge detriment to the pyramid in general. Longfellow's Choral program feeds into McLean High School which is nationally recognized. So if your child excels in music, not having a music program at the middle school level is going to create a gaping hole and hurt McLean's Music Program for several years.

Longfellow was an amazing school to go to with an advanced AAP program and extra clubs and activities to help any extra interests. The music programs (Chorus, Band, Orchestra) won all first place awards in 2015-2016. The reason this is more of 3 stars than all 5 is that the Chorus Program is being cut off for the next year 2016-2017. As a loyal choir person, I am really upset about this decision and wish it to be reversed ASAP.
